COMPETITION RULES

Requirements for the application:

The competition is open for creative classical guitarists, according to the following categories:   

Baby category:
born in 2016 and younger competitors
Junior category:
born in 2014 and younger competitors
First category:
born in 2012 and younger competitors
Second category:
born in 2010 and younger competitors
Third category:
born in 2008 and younger competitors
Third “X” category*:
born in 2008 and younger competitors
Fourth category:
born in 2006 and younger competitors
Fourth “X” category*:
born in 2006 and younger competitors
Fifth category:
born in 2004 and younger competitors
Fifth “X” category*:
born in 2004 and younger competitors
Sixth category:
born in 2002 and younger competitors
Seventh category:
born in 1998 and younger competitors
Pro category:
no age limitation

*The Third "X", Fourth "X" and Fifth "X" categories are reserved only for competitors studying at high school or at university of music. The categories marked without "X" are open to everyone, but competitors studying at high school or at university of music cannot apply for them.


Baby, Junior, First, Second, Third, Third “X”, Fourth, Fourth “X”, Fifth and Fifth “X” category:

The contest has only one round, live in Szeged (Hungary).


Sixth, Seventh and Pro category:

The contest is divided into two rounds, the first one is online, the second happens live in Szeged (Hungary). The jury will evaluate the uploaded videos and choose the finalists who have to play their program live on the spot.


Rating system:

Competitors can earn a maximum of 100 points during the competition.


Program:

Baby, Junior, First, Second, Third, Third “X”, Fourth, Fourth “X”, Fifth and Fifth “X” category:

Baby category:
performance time is maximum 2 minutes
Junior category:
performance time is maximum 3 minutes
First category:
performance time is maximum 5 minutes
Second category:
performance time is maximum 7 minutes
Third category:
performance time is maximum 9 minutes
Third “X” category:
performance time is maximum 9 minutes
Fourth category:
performance time is maximum 12 minutes
Fourth “X” category:
performance time is maximum 12 minutes
Fifth category:
performance time is maximum 15 minutes
Fifth “X” category:
performance time is maximum 15 minutes


  • The timing of performance will be evaluated within a tolerance time rate of one minute.
  • The program selection is free.
  • All compositions must be played by memory.
  • The jury evaluates on a scale of 1 to 100.
  • The competition organizer reserves the right that if the number of entrants (any category) does not reach 5 persons, then the competition of that category will not be held. In this case, the entry fee will be refunded upon request.


Sixth and Seventh category:

1st round: 

  • Every player have to upload a video of minimum 7, maximum 10 minutes, recorded with one single shot (uncut) to a file share platform (for ex. Google Drive, Dropbox, Fileshare, WeTransfer) and share with the organizers of the competition.
  • The program selection is free: the total program should have at least 2 different styles.
  • The composers’ names and titles of the compositions must be included in the application and attached to the video file.
  • All compositions must be played by memory.

2nd round: 

  • Minimum 10, maximum 15 minutes of program to be played live on the spot. 
  • The program selection is free: the total program should have at least 2 different styles.
  • All compositions must be played by memory.

IMPORTANT: The program has to be different in the 2 rounds!


Pro category:

1st round:

Operation of the jury:

  • Participants are evaluated by scoring, which are summed up by averaging all of the jury member’s individual points.
  • The jury is entitled to interrupt the performance in case of exceeding the specified playing time, and evaluate the performance based on the listened part.
  • The performance of each candidate will be evaluated.

  • The proof (a copy or photo of the bank statement) of the application fee transferred.
  • A photocopy of a personal document (identity card, passport) or birth certificate.
  • Certificate of school attendance in case of categories marked “X”.

A high value guitar and an invitation to the next Szeged IGF as a performer.
2nd place
Gift package (value 400€).
3rd place

Special awards:

  • The most successful teacher will be awarded with a free passive participation to the next Szeged International Guitar Festival.
  • The most successful school will be awarded with the opportunity to participate all of the institute’s guitar teachers with free passive participation at the next Szeged International Guitar Festival.


Miscellaneous:

  • The organizer reserves the right to use the photos and videos taken during the competition to promote the competition. The photos may show up in the media, on the official website, on the Facebook and Instagram pages of the festival, on our YouTube channel, posters, flyers, etc.
  • In case of withdrawal of application, the organizers of the competition will not be able to refund the entry fee.
  • The teacher who is applying 2 or more participants to the competition will achieve a free passive participation attending all events of the festival (masterclasses, concerts, lectures).
