8th Szeged IGF International Guitar Competition 

Competition rules

Requirements for application

The competition is open for creative classical guitarists, according to the following categories:

Baby - Fifth age group:

The contest has only one round, live in Szeged (Hungary).

Pro category:

The contest is built of two rounds, the first online, the second live in Szeged (Hungary). The international jury will evaluate the uploaded videos. The competitors have to play their program live at the 22nd Szeged International Guitar Festival also.

Rating system

Competitors can earn a maximum of 100 points during the competition.

Program

Baby - Fifth age group:

• The timing of performance will be evaluated within a tolerance time rate of one minute.

• The program selection is free.

• All compositions must be played by memory.

• The jury can score the videos on a scale of 1 to 100.

• The competition organizer reserves the right that if the number of entrants (any age group) does not reach 5 persons, then the competition of that age group will not be held. In this case, the entry fee will be refunded automatically.

Pro category:

1st round: 

• Every player have to upload a video of min. 15, max. 20 minutes, recorded with one single shot (uncut) on a file share platform (for ex. Google Drive, Dropbox, Fileshare) and share with the organizers of the competition.

• The program has one obligatory element (style): 

  • a composition(s) of ancient music, duration min. 5 minutes (renaissance or baroque).

• The rest of the program is free: the total program should have at least 3 different styles (including the obligatory style).

• Each composition must have a title listed in the application and in the video description. 

• Each uploaded video's title must be: Szeged IGF Guitar Competition | Performer's name

• All compositions must be played by memory.

2nd round: 

• Min. 15, max. 20 minutes of program to be played live at the 22nd Szeged International Guitar Festival. 

• The program has one obligatory element:

  • The program must include composition(s) by a Hungarian composer from 20th or 21th century (min. 4 minutes). In case the contestant has no Hungarian composition, a piece from the country of origin of the competitor can be included.

• The rest of the program is free. The total program should have at least 3 different styles (including the obligatory style).

• All compositions must be played by memory.

IMPORTANT: the program has to be different in the 2 rounds!

Composition and operation of the jury

• International jury.

• The jury is entitled to interrupt the program exceeding the specified playing time, and evaluate the performance based on the present performance.

• Participants are evaluated by scoring, which are summed up by averaging the score cards.

• The performance of each candidate will be evaluated.

The fee must be sent by bank (wire) transfer to the organizer's account:

  • A tax return (personal and/or parent's - optional).

  • Written declaration of originality of the own piece(s).

  • The proof (copy, photo of bank statement) of application fee transferred.

  • Written declaration about the acceptance of conditions of the contest.

  • The filled application form (find it at the end of the regulation).

  • A photocopy of a personal document (identity card, passport) or birth certificate.

  • In the case of a minor, a parental declaration of authorizing participation in the competition.

Pro category:

• The email should include:

  • The link of the uploaded  video.

  • A tax return (personal and/or parent's - optional).

  • Written declaration of originality of the own piece(s).

  • The proof (copy, photo of bank statement) of application fee transferred.

  • The filled application form (find it at the end of the regulation).

Pro category

Special award for the best interpretation of the Hungarian composition.

Winning the international guitar competition at Szeged International Guitar Festival means that you will as well join the EuroStrings Young Star exchange programme. Through this programme the Young Star will experience a concert tour to several EuroStrings festivals and join the annual EuroStrings Competition. The winner of EuroStrings Competition will get a prize of 5000€ and will be offered arrangements for concerts in the US and in China.

Invitation to EuroStrings Artist project, which means invitation to perform at minimum eight guitar festivals of EuroStrings network, which has more than 19 festivals across Europe.

Special awards

• The most successful teacher will be awarded with a free passive participation for the 23rd Szeged International Guitar Festival.

• The most successful school will be awarded with the opportunity to participate with all of the institute’s guitar teachers with free passive participation to the 23rd Szeged International Guitar Festival.

Miscellaneous

• The organizer reserves the right to use the photos and videos taken during the competition to promote the competition. The photos may show up in the media, on the official website, the Facebook and Instagram page of the festival, on our YouTube channel, posters, flyers, etc.

• The teacher who is applying 3 or more participants on the competition will achieve a free passive participation attending all events of the festival (masterclasses, concerts, lectures).

• The competitors gets 40% discount on the active application for the 22nd Szeged International Guitar Festival – details and application: www.gitarfesztival.hu.
